Thailand is now operating two airports in the
Bangkok area. Suvarnabhumi (Airport code BKK) opened on September
28, 2006 and, located in Samut Prakan Province, just outside of
Bangkok. All international flights arrivals and departures and some
domestic flights are operated from here.
Don Muang Airport (Airport Code DMK), the original
International Airport was to be closed with the opening of
Suvarnabhumi located on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, Bangkok serves
non-connecting flights of Thai Airways, all domestic flights of Nok
Air and some domestic flights of Orient Thai (One-Two-Go).
Domestic flights are also easy and convenient,
cutting down on journey time. Several domestic carriers service a
majority of large provincial cities dotting generously across the
country. Travel to neighboring countries is cheaper when booked
within Thailand.
Train services connect Bangkok to all regions of the
country at reasonable prices. A regular rail service also runs
between Bangkok and Singapore via Malaysia. Long distance coaches,
both air-conditioned and open-aired, connect all major cities.
At the local level, many transportation choices are
offered: provincial buses, city buses, songthaews, tuk-tuks,
rickshaws, boats, motorbike taxis, rental cars and
motorbikes.
